When you buy a stock, you <em>expect <\/em>it to go up; setting a stop loss at that point in time makes you play the devil\u2019s advocate with yourself. Its not a nice feeling. However, setting a <strong><em>trailing <\/em><\/strong>stop loss, takes some of the pain away.<\/p>\n<p>Quite simply, a trailing stop is <strong>not a fixed price<\/strong> at which you exit a loss making investment \u2013 it is a <strong>percentage <\/strong>below the most recent high set <em>after<\/em> you have made the buy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stockviz.biz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/image12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-top: 0px;border-width: 0px\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/stockviz.biz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/image_thumb12.png\" width=\"660\" height=\"415\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For example, lets assume that you bought a stock at Rs. 100. It then proceeds to move in this fashion:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stockviz.biz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/image13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 10px;padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;float: left;padding-top: 0px;border-width: 0px\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/stockviz.biz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/image_thumb13.png\" width=\"214\" height=\"222\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Watch how the <em>trailing base<\/em>, hugs the highs made by the stock after you bought it.<\/p>\n<p>The stop loss is then triggered when the price <em>falls <strong>x % <\/strong>below the <strong>trailing base<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In this example, if you set the trailing stop loss <strong>% as 5<\/strong>, the stop loss is triggered at point <strong>(7)<\/strong> highlighted in the chart.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The positives are many:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You will never let a profitable trade turn into a loss making one<\/li>\n<li>It acts like a regular stop loss if the stock turns negative right after you buy it<\/li>\n<li>You don\u2019t have to reset your stop every time the stock makes a move<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>StockViz is proud to announce the availability of <strong>Trailing Stop Loss Alerts<\/strong> for our users.
